Along Union Street in the Halifax North End, this little community garden was truly a lucky find.

We had visited Fort Needham Memorial Park and the 1907 Halifax Explosion Memorial and were leaving via Union Street when we spotted garden boxes alongside the street. We stopped to investigate and found that it was, indeed, a community garden, a project of the North End Community Circle, a community support organization whose stated mission is:
To promote and activate helpful relationships, celebrate strengths and mobilize resources to address needs in collaboration with families, residents and stakeholders in the North End of Halifax. Or, in short: to bring people together to make good things happen.
From the NECC
At present consisting of about 20 wood framed raised garden beds, the garden also has a small tool shed at its east end and, when we visited, a pile of dirt/compost for new bed creation, a couple of brightly coloured wooden benches for contemplating the scene and a garbage can. A small hand lettered sign identifies the garden and also mentions that the bed on which the sign is mounted is a "community" bed, allowing passers by to "nibble". There were strawberries, salad greens, peas, squash, tomatoes and chives in that bed the summer we stopped by.

As a finding aid, the garden is at the most northerly point of Union Street, at a right angle corner.
