"In 1804, when the Napoleonic Code was introduced, Napoleon made a longer journey through the conquered areas on the left bank of the Rhine. He also made a stop in Luxembourg, which at that time belonged to the Forest Department of the French Republic. When he moved into Luxembourg over the Sauerbrücke in Wasserbillig, he was received in full dress by the mayor Valère Seyl and the parish priest of Grevenmacher, Johann Jakob Ransonnet, with welcoming speeches.
