"La ciutat de Tarragona estrenarà aquest dimecres la segona maqueta més gran del món romà, només superada per una que s'exhibeix a la capital italiana. Amb motiu del cinquè aniversari de la inclusió dels monuments romans de la ciutat al patrimoni mundial per part de la Unesco, la Tàrraco de mitjans del segle II quedarà reproduïda en una maqueta de 21 metres quadrats a escala 1:500. Fonts del Museu d'Història de la ciutat han explicat que "es pretén aconseguir, cada vegada més, una recreació científica i detallada de Tàrraco".
La maqueta conté les tres terrasses monumentals superiors, amb el circ, el fòrum provincial i l'àrea de culte, així com l'amfiteatre o l'àrea portuària. Està realitzada en 48 colors i a partir de diferents materials.
La reproducció s'instal·larà a la Volta del Pallol, tancada des de fa deu anys per les filtracions d'aigua de pluja. La Volta del Pallol és l'espai escollit per acollir en un futur el centre d'interpretació de la ciutat, que tindrà l'objectiu d'ajudar a situar el visitant a la Tàrraco de fa 2.000 anys.
Els treballs de realització de la maqueta, que han durat més de dos anys i han anat a càrrec de l'empresa Clarmont, han suposat una inversió de 66.000 euros."
