Hypocenter - Hiroshima, Japan - Signs of History on Waymarking.com

"On August 6th, 1945, the atomic bomb “Little Boy” exploded roughly 180 meters (590 feet) straight up above this quiet spot on a side-street of modern day Hiroshima, Japan.

The site of the hypocenter itself is marked only by a plaque showing a photo of the devastation which resulted and stating the bare facts. Visitors leave flowers and paper cranes in memory of the dead.

The plaque can be found less than five minutes’ walk from the A-Bomb Dome." (visit link)

The plaque reads: "Carried to Hiroshima from Tinian island by Enora Gay, a US army B-29 bomber, the first atomic bomb used in the history of humankind exploded approximately 600 meters above this spot. The city below was hit by heat rays of approximately 3000 to 4000°C along with a blast wind and radiation. Most of the people in the area lost their lives instantly. The time was 8:15am August 6th 1945.
