Heigne, jadis nommé "Hunia Castellum" était un haut lieu de pèlerinage.  C'est à la vénération vouée par les populations des environs à la Vierge de Heigne que l'on doit la construction au 12è siècle d'une vaste Eglise en plein milieu du petit hameau de 40 à 50 habitants.

Au 13è siècle, les moines de Lobbes bâtirent un Prieuré sur les fondations de l'ancien fortin de Heigne et agrandirent l'Eglise.

La procession qui lui était dédiée se perpétua mais fut peu à peu vouée à Sainte Marie Madeleine.

Heigne, once named" Hunia Castellum "was a place of pilgrimage.It is the veneration of the people of the area to the Virgin of Heigne that we owe the construction in the 12th century of a large church in full middle of the small hamlet of 40 to 50 inhabitants.

In the 13th century, the monks of Lobbes built a Priory on the foundations of the old fort of Heigne and enlarged the Church.

The procession dedicated to him continued but was gradually dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene.
