Nikko Tosho-gu is a Tosho-gu Shinto shrine located in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Tosho-gu is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. It was initially built in 1617, during the Edo period, while Ieyasu's son Hidetada was shogun. It was enlarged during the time of the third shogun, Iemitsu. Ieyasu is enshrined there, where his remains are also entombed. This shrine was built by Tokugawa retainer Todo Takatora.

The original five-story pagoda was donated by a daimyo in 1650, but it was burned down during a fire, and was rebuilt in 1818. Each story represents an element–earth, water, fire, wind and aether (or void)–in ascending order. (visit link)

This replica is a recreation of the stylish Nikko Tosho-gu Shrine built at 1/10 scale. Not only the architecture but the ornamentation, carvings and paintings have been painstakingly copied. The creation of the model required the participation of 33 master carpenters and extended over 15 years under the Taisho era (1912-1925). Composed of 28 buildings, including the main lodge, the hall of worship and a 5-story pagoda, the model has been shown throughout the United States after the war and 30 years later in Japan, on the occasion of Aoi Haku (Okazaki exhibition) in 1990. And after that, by the will of the owner, this replica is stored in this shrine eternally. (visit link)
