Mentionné dès 1229, l’ancien hospice Saint-Gilles, en dehors de son aile gothique du XVIe siècle, a été reconstruit à partir de 1667 en adoptant un plan en U et en alternant la brique pour les murs et la pierre calcaire pour les encadrements de fenêtre et les chaînages d’angle. Racheté par la Région wallonne en 1985, l’édifice fait l’objet, à partir de 1996, d’une vaste campagne de restauration pour abriter le Parlement de la Région wallonne, créée par la révision de la Constitution belge en 1980. Les 75 parlementaires, élus au suffrage universel direct depuis la réforme de 1993, siègent « à l’anglaise » dans une salle des séances publiques rectangulaire.
Vermeld sinds 1229, werd het voormalige Hospice Saint-Gilles, met uitzondering van de 16e eeuwse gotische vleugel, vanaf 1667 herbouwd met een U-vormig plan en afwisselend baksteen voor de muren en kalksteen voor de kozijnen en hoekbanden. Het gebouw, dat in 1985 door het Waals Gewest werd aangekocht, is sinds 1996 het voorwerp geweest van een uitgebreide restauratiecampagne om het Waals Parlement van het Waals Gewest te huisvesten, opgericht door de herziening van de Belgische grondwet in 1980. De 75 parlementariërs, verkozen door middel van rechtstreekse algemene verkiezingen sinds de hervorming van 1993, zitten in een rechthoekige openbare zitkamer in Engelse stijl.
Mentioned since 1229, the former Hospice Saint-Gilles, apart from its 16th century Gothic wing, was rebuilt from 1667 onwards by adopting a U-shaped plan and alternating brick for the walls and limestone for the window frames and corner ties. It was bought by the Walloon Region in 1985 and from 1996 onwards underwent a major restoration campaign for the Parliament of the Walloon Region, created by the revision of the Belgian Constitution in 1980. The 75 parliamentarians, elected by direct universal suffrage since the 1993 reform, sit "English-style" in a rectangular public sitting room.
