In Providence, within the Roger Williams Park, is the City of Providence Natural History Museum and Planetarium.

Roger Williams Park is located just off I-95. From I-95, take the exit for Rhode Island Route 10. Continue east on route 10, following signs to the park entrance, about 3/4 mile from the exit. From there, follow the main road through the park to an intersection just beyond the zoo entrance. Follow this road to the museum building on the left.

The museum is in an orange colored building. The RI Foundation site stated that the building was designed by the architecture firm, Martin and Hall, in the French Chateau architectural style. The museum opened in 1896. The planetarium was added in 1953.

The museum has been updated since it has been opened. It has several contemporary exhibits, including one about plant and animals that have adapted to urban environments. Another is about the solar system bodies that may have the potential to have life on/in them. Other exhibits include rock and mineral and fossil collections on both floors.

From the museum web site:

The museum is open every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with last admission at 3:30pm. The museum is closed 10:00am to 1:00pm the first Monday of every month.

Admission: $2, $3 with the planetarium show.
