The road "Saseler Damm" with its "Bäckerbrücke" is the only way for motor vehicles to cross the Alster on an 11 km long section of the upper reaches of the Alster and thus cuts through the biotope of the Alster valley.
In order to enable smaller wild animals to move easily, there is a wooden walkway under the west side of the bridge, which should enable them to cross this obstacle safely.
