Le Ministre wallon du Patrimoine, René COLLIN, a demandé à l’Agence wallonne du Patrimoine – AWaP- de procéder à l’ouverture de l’enquête en vue du classement éventuel de la Tour d’Eben-Ezer située à Bassenge et dominant la vallée du Geer.
La demande, portée par l’ASBL Musée du Silex, constitue assurément une plus-value pour le patrimoine wallon. En effet, aucune construction similaire ne peut être identifiée en Wallonie et même hors de nos frontières. Cette authenticité se traduit par le terme « unicum ».
La Tour d’Eben-Ezer, pour le moins originale, bénéficie d’une réelle renommée à l’étranger notamment par son architecture qualifiée de « naïve » ou de « spontanée ». 30 ans ont été nécessaires au tailleur de pierre Robert Garcet pour terminer cet édifice achevé en 1965. Entièrement édifié en moellons de silex, l’ouvrage de plan carré, haut de près de trente mètres, s’élève sur six niveaux. Les tourelles sont coiffées de quatre sculptures représentant les chérubins de l’Apocalypse : le sphinx, le taureau, l’aigle et le lion.
« Sa valeur, analyse René COLLIN, réside avant tout dans son empreinte insolite ainsi que dans l’expression émotionnelle et symbolique qu’elle dégage. La tour d’Eben-Ezer fait partie intégrante d’un héritage collectif dont la préservation contribue à la mise en valeur de notre cadre de vie, du savoir-faire wallon ainsi qu'à la dynamique de son pouvoir d'attraction auprès du grand-public ».

The Walloon Heritage Minister, René COLLIN, asked the Walloon Heritage Agency - AWaP - to proceed with the opening of the inquiry for the possible classification of the Eben-Ezer Tower located in Bassenge and dominating the Geer valley.
The request, made by the NPO Flint Museum, is undoubtedly an added value for the Walloon heritage. Indeed, no similar construction can be identified in Wallonia and even outside our borders. This authenticity is translated by the term "unicum".
The Eben-Ezer Tower, to say the least original, has a real reputation abroad, especially by its architecture described as "naive" or "spontaneous". It took the stonemason Robert Garcet 30 years to complete this completed building in 1965. Built entirely of flint rubble, the 30-meter-high square-top structure stands on six levels. The turrets are capped with four sculptures representing the cherubim of the Apocalypse: the sphinx, the bull, the eagle and the lion.
"Its value, analyzes René COLLIN, resides above all in its unusual imprint as well as in the emotional and symbolic expression that it releases. The Eben-Ezer tower is an integral part of a collective heritage whose preservation contributes to the enhancement of our living environment, Walloon know-how and the dynamics of its power of attraction to the great -public ".

De Waalse erfgoedminister, René COLLIN, vroeg het Waals Erfgoedbureau - AWaP - om verder te gaan met de opening van het onderzoek naar de mogelijke classificatie van de Eben-Ezer-toren in Bassenge en die de Geervallei domineert.
Het verzoek van het NPO Flint Museum heeft ongetwijfeld een toegevoegde waarde voor het Waalse erfgoed. Er is inderdaad geen vergelijkbare constructie te vinden in Wallonië en zelfs buiten onze grenzen. Deze authenticiteit wordt vertaald door de term "unicum".
De Eben-Ezer-toren, op zijn zachtst gezegd origineel, vooral met zijn architectuur beschreven als "naïef" of "spontaan". Het kostte de steenhouwer Robert Garcet 30 jaar om dit voltooide gebouw in 1965 te voltooien. Het is volledig opgetrokken uit puin en de structuur van 30 meter hoog met vierkante bovenkant staat op zes niveaus. De torentjes zijn bedekt met vier sculpturen die de cherubijnen van de Apocalyps voorstellen: de sfinx, de stier, de arend en de leeuw.
"De waarde ervan, analyseert René COLLIN, berust vooral op zijn ongewone indruk en op de emotionele en symbolische expressie die het geeft." De Eben-Ezer-toren is een integraal onderdeel van een collectief erfgoed waarvan het behoud bijdraagt ??aan de verbetering van ons leven milieu, Waalse knowhow en de dynamiek van zijn aantrekkingskracht voor de grote publiek.
