The bicycle bridge between the Dreef in Nerem and the Keerstraat in Mal must ensure a safe and smooth connection between the city center - via the Kevie - and the industrial area Tongeren Oost with, among other things, Sportoase. "The bridge is made of fiber-reinforced plastic composite and has a balustrade like the bridges in Nerem. A composite bicycle bridge is maintenance-free, can be quickly installed and is insensitive to de-icing salt or rust. The bridge costs 97,000 euros and the total cost of the works is estimated at 240,000 euros. "

De fietsbrug tussen de Dreef in Nerem en de Keerstraat in Mal moet zorgen voor een veilige en vlotte verbinding tussen het stadscentrum - via de Kevie - en het industrieterrein Tongeren Oost met onder meer Sportoase. Uniek is dat de brug, die volledig vervaardigd is uit kunststof, als een geheel werd geleverd en geplaatst. De brug werd bij FiberCore in Rotterdam gefabriceerd.
“Het drie meter brede fietspad tussen Dreef en Keerstraat wordt weldra aangelegd in asfaltverharding”, zegt schepen van Openbare Werken An Christiaens (CD&V). “De brug is gemaakt uit vezelversterkt kunststof composiet en heeft een balustrade zoals de bruggetjes in Nerem. Een composieten fietsbrug is onderhoudsvrij, kan snel geplaatst worden en is ongevoelig voor dooizout of roest. De brug kost 97.000 euro en de totale kostprijs van de werken is geraamd op 240.000 euro.”
“Binnenkort zal men van aan de Moerenpoort met de fiets tot aan de Sportoase of tot op Tongeren-Oost geraken via de volkstuintjes, de Kevie en over de fietsbrug”, vult burgemeester Patrick Dewael aan. “Een goede en veilige fietsverbinding is belangrijk om mensen aan het werk te krijgen op Tongeren-Oost. Ook het sluitstuk van het fietstraject aan Sportoase kan aangelegd worden en samen met de scholen zullen we werk maken van een schoolroutekaart.” (diro)
