This printed metal sign is held within a curved tubular pipe frame, and you are facing the sheltered beach as you read it. The inscription is:

"Fleurieu Peninsula
Home of the Hooded Plover

"Fleurieu Peninsula beaches are home to Australia's most threatened beach-nesting bird. You can help by walking along the water's edge to avoid stepping on a nest or chick.

"Hooded Plovers lay their eggs directly on the beach (occasionally on sand dunes) from August to March each year.

"Less than 25 breeding pairs of Hooded Plovers are left on the Fleurieu Peninsula and one pair nests on this beach.

"Temporary fencing and/or signage is installed to let you know when vulnerable nests and chick are present.

* Please observe local dog regulations
* Stay well clear of fenced areas during nesting season, including the dunes.
* Walk along the water's edge past signposted nesting areas to avoid disturbing the birds."
