At the edge of the Myponga Cemetery is a black marble slab covered grave, with a polished black marble headstone, for Lilian Dorothea Banning, nee Oldfield. The gold coloured inscription reads:

In Loving Memory of
LILIAN DOROTHEA BANNING
(nee Oldfield)
9-4-1905 - 2-8-2005
Beloved Wife of Edward Ewart
and Mother of Rosalie
Walter, Winston and Malcolm

* When Lilian was born (assuming she was born in South Australia) there would have already been the official flag of the State of South Australia, which was adopted in 1904. Before she was a teenager the first troops headed off to 'the Great War' of 1914-18/19.
* She could have been in SA when the 'Stobie pole' was invented in 1924 - concrete sandwiched between steel joists, used to keep power lines safe from fires and termites; now a South Australian 'icon'.
* The State of South Australia celebrated its centenary in 1936, just a few years before the new Parliament House was opened in Adelaide (1939) - the year of the WORST bushfires and highest temperatures 47°+C; and of course the start of World War Two.
* 'Along the line' Lilian Oldfield married Edward Ewart Banning, and had four children: Rosalie, Walter, Winston and Malcolm.

Address: Cnr Hansen Street/Hutchinson Street, Myponga, SA, 5202, Australia

[While Lilian Banning is mentioned in a couple of databases found online, there is no further information to the headstone inscription. For example: Grave Stone Photos - Lilian Banning]

* For those, who use a different date format, Lilian was born in April 1905, and Died in August, 2005 *
