Het Stadspark Maastricht is één van de drie oudste parken in Nederland. Het bestaat al meer dan 175 jaar. Langs de Maas, buiten de Onze Lieve Vrouwepoort was ooit een kleine exercitieplaats. De militair gouverneur van de vesting Maastricht, Frederik Magnus, Prins van Salm, nam in 1653 het initiatief voor de eerste aanleg van het park. Het werd een comfortabele wandelplaats voor officieren. In de 18e en 19e eeuw breidde het park fors uit. Tenslotte werd er een fraaie Engelse landschapstuin aangelegd. Hier onderhield de Maastrichtse bourgeoisie haar sociale contacten.
Het Stadspark bestaat uit een aantal deelparken. D’n Ingelsen Hoof, een smalle strook tussen de Maas en de Maasboulevard. Kempland, de grote ligweide tussen de Maasboullevard en de Onze Lieve Vrouwewal. Het Faliezusterpark, ligt tussen de Helpoort en Poort Waerachtig. Het wandelpark rondom het bastion Haet ende Nijdt heet het Monseigneur Nolenspark. In het Aldenhofpark bevindt zich de voormalige berenkuil en het monument van d’Artagnan, de Franse musketier die hier sneuvelde. En tot slot ligt tussen de stadswal en de Tapijnkazerne het Henri Hermanspark. Hier bevindt zich ook de vogel voliere en het hertenkamp, geliefd bij gezinnen met kleine kinderen.
Het park is door zijn vele bezienswaardigheden de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Zoals de vestingwerken, die deels te bewandelen zijn en de verschillende kunstwerken en beelden in het park. Daarnaast bevinden zich er veel bijzondere bomen in het park, waaronder; de Goudappel, Japanse Notenboom, Papiermoerbei, Wilde citroen en een Honingboom.
Tevens werden er deze week informatieborden over vogels in het Maastrichtse stadspark geplaatst. Het is de bedoeling dat bezoekers van het park niet alleen naar de vogels in de volière kijken en daar meer over te weten komen, maar van daaruit ook belangstelling krijgen voor de vogels in de vrije natuur

The Stadspark Maastricht is one of the three oldest parks in the Netherlands. It has existed for more than 175 years. Along the Maas, outside the Onze Lieve Vrouwepoort was once a small exercise place. The military governor of the Maastricht fortress, Frederik Magnus, Prince of Salm, took the initiative in 1653 for the first construction of the park. It became a comfortable walking place for officers. The park expanded considerably in the 18th and 19th century. Finally, a beautiful English landscape garden was created. Here the Maastricht bourgeoisie maintained its social contacts.
The City Park consists of a number of sub-parks. D'n Ingelsen Hoof, a narrow strip between the Meuse and the Maasboulevard. Kempland, the large sunbathing area between the Maasboullevard and the Onze Lieve Vrouwewal. The Faliezusterpark, located between the Helpoort and Poort Waerachtig. The walking park around the bastion Haet ende Nijdt is called Monseigneur Nolenspark. In the Aldenhof park is the former bear pit and the monument of d'Artagnan, the French musketeer who fell here. Finally, the Henri Hermanspark is located between the city wall and the Tapijnkazerne. Here is also the aviary and the deer camp, popular with families with small children.
The park is worth visiting because of its many attractions. Such as the fortifications, which are partly to walk and the different artworks and sculptures in the park. In addition, there are many special trees in the park, including; the Goudappel, Japanese Nut Tree, Paper Mulberry, Wild Lemon and a Honey Tree.
