Voor zover bekend werd het eerste regenboogzebrapad in 2012 aangebracht tijdens de Gay Pride-maand in West Hollywood, gevolgd door paden in Tel Aviv en Sydney, die aandacht kregen in de (sociale) media. In 2013 werden uit protest tegen het Russische anti-homobeleid regenboogpaden aangebracht bij de Russische ambassades in Helsinki en Stockholm.

In België werd het eerste (tijdelijke) regenboogzebrapad aangebracht in Gent in mei 2013. In Nederland volgde het eerste pad in juni 2013 in Utrecht, ter gelegenheid van de Roze Zaterdag die daar toen samenviel met het jaarlijkse Midzomergracht festival.

Op 17 mei, de Internationale Dag Tegen Holebifobie en Transfobie (IDAHOT), wordt in Hasselt een regenboogzebrapad ingehuldigd. Dat meldt het Regenbooghuis Limburg.


Het zebrapad komt er aan het kruispunt van de Demerstraat, Hoogstraat, Botermarkt en Lombaartstraat.

As far as we know, the first rainbow crosswalk was introduced in 2012 during the Gay Pride month in West Hollywood, followed by paths in Tel Aviv and Sydney, which received attention in the (social) media. In 2013, rainbow paths were made at the Russian embassies in Helsinki and Stockholm in protest against the Russian anti-gay policy.

In Belgium the first (temporary) rainbow crosswalk was installed in Ghent in May 2013. In the Netherlands the first path followed in June 2013 in Utrecht, on the occasion of the Pink Saturday that coincided with the annual Midsummer Canal festival.

On 17 May, the International Day Against Holebifobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), a rainbow pedestrian crossing will be inaugurated in Hasselt. That reports the Regenbooghuis Limburg.


The zebra crossing will be at the crossroads of Demerstraat, Hoogstraat, Botermarkt and Lombaartstraat.
