The highest point in the State of Oklahoma is on Black Mesa, north of Kenton and near the Colorado border. An obelisk marks the spot, and the summit register is housed in an ammo can at the base of the obelisk. The original summit log, dating from the seventies, can be seen in the Kenton Museum.
The Black Mesa Trail begins at N 36 57.430 W 102 57.420. There is ample parking and a restroom but no potable water, so make sure you bring plenty of your own. The Black Mesa Trail is eight and a half miles, round trip. While most of the walk is relatively flat and smooth, the third quarter of the trail is rugged and steep. There are benches at the 1-, 2-, and 3-mile marks as well as at the monument. Wildlife is abundant here, including mountain lions, bobcats, and rattlesnakes, so be careful!
