When I was asking about if there was a Foundation Stone for this historic church, I was pointed to this Commemorative Plaque on the eastern side of the building. It 'duplicates' the Foundation Stone with the 125th year anniversary, and it reads:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD
This plaque commemorates the 125th Anniversary of the laying of the Foundation Stone in 1838. Beneath the original stone, location now unknown, a plate of lead was inserted with this inscription: _______________________ The Foundation Stone of TRINITY CHURCH was laid by His Excellency Captain John Hindmarsh R.N., K.H. First Governor of South Australia, January 26, MDCCCXXXVIII Trustees-the Hon. J.H. Fisher, Osmond Gilles Esq, Charles Mann Esq. Rev. C. B. Howard, M.A., T.C.D., Incumbent The Lord of Heaven He will prosper us therefore we his servants will arise and build - Nehemiah 2:20. ------------------------------------ Unveiled by His Excellency Lieutenant General Sir Edric Bastyan, Governor of South Australia on Sunday February 3rd, 1963 Trustees - Messrs B.E. Johnson, J.W. Murrel, W.B. Rowe Rector - The Rev. Lance R. Chilton, B.A, B.D., Th.L.

From the sign at the street entrance, "This North Terrace site was chosen by Colonel William Light, the colony's Surveyor General. The foundation stone of the permanent building was laid by Captain John Hindmarsh, South Australia's first governor, on 26th January 1838. The church building was reconstructed in 1845 and significantly extended in 1888-1889, when it was transformed into its existing Victorian Gothic style with pointed windows and a steeper pitched roof." [As can be seen by the difference in the stones for the top of the Clock/Bell Tower and the newer roof line.]
