This chapel is on a more or less abandoned cemetery in Merkers. Merkers is a small village in the former DDR.
The cemetary has many neglected and overcrown graves.

The chapel is approximately 60 years old, and has brick walls creating a rectangular shape of approx 4 x 6 meters. In front of the chapel are two square shaped brick columns, creating a porch.
The chapel has a wooden roof covered with clay roof tiles.
The entrance are two wooden doors of oakwood. Each side wall has a small window with blinded glass.

This, since a long time no longer used cemetery, is, among other things, also the final resting place of the regionally famous "Rhönlieddichter" (poet)
("Pull on the hiking shoe ...") known as Andreas Fack.
Unfortunately, his grave currently graces only a simple wooden cross. A not very history-conscious councilor gave away his tombstone to Kaltennordheim at the end of the the nineties.
Andreas Fack was not only buried in Merkers but also comes from a long-established
remarkable farmer family. His birthplace is in Salzunger Straße 36.

The cemetery is only accessable by entering from the Salzunger Straße!
