La halle al’chair fut construite à la demande du gouverneur espagnol de Bruxelles, ce qui explique la présence des armoiries de Philippe II d’Espagne qui figurent au-dessus de la porte d’entrée.
Het was op vraag van koning Filips II van Spanje en zijn regering te Brussel dat er tussen 1588 en 1590 een vleeshuis werd gebouwd aan de oevers van de Samber. Vandaar het wapen van de Spaanse koning boven de toegangspoort van de hal.
It was at the request of King Philip II of Spain and his government that a meat house was built in Brussels between 1588 and 1590 on the banks of the Sambre. Hence the coat of arms of the Spanish king above the entrance gate of the hall.
