Rahmenbau (Frame construction) or Landschaft im Dia (landscape in the slide) is a work of art of the former architect and artist group Haus-Rucker-Co. The installation was designed in 1977 for the documenta 6 in Kassel and since then stands on the east side of the Friedrichsplatz above the Karlsaue and the Orangerie.
The steel and steel grid installation has a basic length of 31 meters, a height of 14 meters and a width of 16.5 meters.
On the Friedrichsplatz on the edge of the slope to Karlsaue stands a large, vertically erected steel lattice frame with the dimensions 14 to 14 meters. Through it leads the view through another, laterally offset grid frame with the dimensions 2.80 to 2.80 meters, which is made of brass.
This frame is attached to a construction of several welded together steel tubes, which in turn is braced with steel cables on the main frame. On the terrace, right next to the main frame, there is a narrow steel walkway that can be walked on by one person. It leads across the parapet of the terrace towards the small frame.
The artwork offers a framed view of the Karlsaue, with the gaze being directed by the large ones through the small frame and focusing on the orangery. This arrangement creates two different sized landscape sections that are nested inside each other. The bridge allows the viewer to approach the smaller of the two framed sections while leaving the view through the large frame.
