The church of Sant Pere is a Romanesque church with Lombard influences. It is a single-nave building with a barrel vault, three apses to the east, north and south. The eight-sided tower has two layers of windows, which, like all, are blind windows.
The first documents found that refer to Sant Pere de Ponts and a castle date back to the year 1091, during the time of Count Ermengol II d'Urgell. In the second half of the 14th century, the congregation moved into the church of Santa Maria, near the village of Pont. In 1391 the church of Sant Pere de Ponts became a collegiate church and retained this function until it's dissolution and destruction in the Carlist War in 1840.
The ruins were declared a national monument in 1931 and restored in the late 20th century through the initiative of l'Associació d'Amics de Sant Pere de Ponts.
A few meters further on there are the ruins of the castell de Ponts (from the 11th/12th century), with a circular tower surrounded by fortified buildings and defensive enclosures.
