Ríp (456 metres above sea level) is the most historic Czech mountain and a symbol of our national history. It is referred to the main legend of the Czech history about the arrival of the forefather Cech in the land "that abounds in milk and honey…" On its top, there is a solitary Romanesque rotunda, renewed in 1126 to commemorate the victory of Prince Sobeslav I against the Roman Emperor Lothar at the battle of Chlumec (a border Czech town).
The chapel is dedicated to the patron saint of the Premyslid dynasty - St. George, and to the patron saint of the Czech Crown – St. Adalbert (Sv. Vojtech). Ríp played a significant role in the period or the National Revival. At a big mass meeting in 1868, one of the foundation stones for the Czech National Theatre was taken from Ríp, and transported to Prague.
