Centre Stone

This stone is known locally as the Centre Stone because it is reputed to mark the centre of the island.

It is granite quarried from the Mont Mado area of St John which is about 3 kms north of here. The stone was possibly brought here from a nearby megalithic monument which has been lost or destroyed. The circular hollow on its surface may be a cupmark which indicates that it may be prehistoric in origin. It now plays host to five different types of lichen.

Elk est en granit extrait de la region de Mont Mado a St John qui se trouve a environ 3 kms au Nord. Gene pierre aurait pu etre amenee ici diun monument megalithique voisin qui a Cte perdu ou detruit. Le petit creux circulaire sur sa surface pourrait etre une 'cupule' d'origine prehistorique. Elle accueille maintenant cinq especes differentes de lichen.
