[EN] The plaque reads in English.

August 26, 1942, the government of the French state, established in this building in Vichy, started a gigantic round-up of foreign Jews throughout the territory of the free zone. More than 6500 of them, among them hundreds of children, were arrested that day and delivered into the hands of the Nazis in the occupied zone, where they were immediately deported, never to return, to the Auschwitz extermination camp. In total, this was the tragic fate of more than 10000 foreign Jews living in the Free zone.

Most of the French population and Catholic and Protestant clergy were immediately opposed to these mesures which violated the traditions and honor of France. They are thanked.

Never forget.
