EN: The Gasthaus zm Bären is located on the main street in the center of Bözen. It is a complex of several nested sub-buildings from different eras. The house was built in 1517 on the instructions of the Berne Council, as a tavern and the courthouse for a court district, which included Bözen, Effingen and Elfingen. I could not find any information until when this building was used as a courthouse. A resonable guess could be until the end of the Bernese rule over this area, thus around 1798.

The house has not served as a court for a long time, but a restaurant was always there without major interruptions. The house was rebuilt in 1819, also in the early 20th century, some major changes took place. In 1910, a first telephone was installed that served the whole village. In 1932 the hall floor collapsed during a dance event, but there were no serious injuries.

For eight generations, the restaurant is run by the same family, the ancestors of the current owners must have taken over the house around 1753.

DE: Das Gasthaus zm Bären steht an der Hauptstrasse im Zentrum von Bözen. Es handelt sich um einen Komplex mehrerer ineinander verschachtelter Teilgebäude aus verschiedenen Epochen. Das Haus wurde 1517 auf Anweisung des Berner Rats errichtet, als Taverne und Gerichtslokal für einen Gerichtskreis, der Bözen, Effingen und Elfingen umfasste. Wie lange das Haus als Gericht diente, konnte ich nicht finden. Möglicherweise bis zum Ende der Berner Herrschaft über dieses Gebiet, also etwa 1798.

Als Gericht dient das Haus schon lange nicht mehr, aber ein Restaurant war darin ohne grössere Unterbrüche immer vorhanden. Das Haus wurde um 1819 umgebaut, auch im frühen 20. Jahrhundert fanden einige grössere Veränderungen statt. 1910 wurde ein Telefon installiert, das dem ganzen Dorf diente. 1932 stürzte während einer Tanzveranstaltung der Saalboden ein, es gab aber keine schweren Verletzungen.

Seit acht Generationen wird das Resturant von der selben Familie geführt, die Vorfahren der heutigen Besitzer müssen das Haus um 1753 übernommen haben.
