Monaco-Ville is the oldest district of the city of Monaco and surrounded by fortifications. The Prince's Palace, several government institutions, as well as the main cathedral are located up here. This entire part of the city has been built ontop of a 60 meters high hill adjoining the Mediterranean coast.

Because of the height, one can overlook large parts of Monaco from up here. The city built a vantage point near the Place du Palais with a great view of most of Monaco's cityscape and harbor Port Hercule. The outlook includes several binoculars, two historic cannons (1 2) and the statue "Science Discovering the Riches of the Ocean".
