Dieser Ort liegt unweit des Braunkohle-Tagebaus Garzweiler. In den 1970er und 1980er Jahren wurde das Tagebau-Gelände stark vergrößert bzw. verschoben um neue Braunkohle-Reserven zu erschließen. Dabei wurde wenig Rücksicht auf Natur und Anwohner gelegt. So wurden nicht nur ganze Landstriche weggebaggert, auch Dörfer und ganze Ortschaften mussten dem Tagebau weichen.

Ein solcher Ort war Darshoven. 1967 wurden die Einwohner des Ortes in das nahegelegene Bedburg umgesiedelt und der Ort anschließend abgerissen. Verantwortlich war der Betreiber des Tagebaus Rheinbraun, heute RWE.

Inzwischen sind die Braunkohlebagger weitergezogen und das Gelände wurde rekultiviert. Wälder und Felder entstanden und Wanderwege wurden eingerichtet. In Erinnerung an den früheren Ort Darshoven und das Schicksal seiner Einwohner wurde an einem dieser Wanderwege ein Gedenkstein mit Tafel aufgestellt.
This place is not far from the lignite opencast mine Garzweiler. In the 1970s and 1980s, the open-pit terrain was greatly increased and shifted to develop new lignite reserves. In doing so, little consideration was given to nature and local residents. Thus, not only entire areas were dredged away, entire villages also had to give way to the open pit.

Such a village was Darshoven. In 1967, the inhabitants of the village were resettled to the nearby Bedburg and then the village was demolished. Responsible was the operator of the mine Rheinbraun, today RWE.

In the meantime the lignite excavators have moved on and the area has been recultivated. Forests and fields were created and hiking trails were established. In memory of the former village of Darshoven and the fate of its inhabitants, a memorial stone with a plaque was set up on one of these trails.
