The "Lauenburg School of Scholars" is one of the oldest schools in Schleswig-Holstein. She is a direct successor to the old Ratzeburg cathedral school and can look back on almost 850 years of historical tradition.
The school had its seat from 1849 to 1955 in this classical building, which had cost 14,850 Taler at its construction.
The lowest number of students was 68 in 1865, the highest in 1875 after the introduction of a preschool at 195. A total of 1,385 students attended the scholar's school in the first 50 years, of which 216 passed the matriculation examination.
