O Corpo da Igreja Paroquial de Fráguas, foi restaurado ou resconstruído e ampliado em 1739 conforme data na galilé. E a Capela-Mor? É mais alta, artisticamente mais pobre, mas com janelas de pedra saliente, arejadas e luminosas.

Quando foi construída?
O Cónego Gama, em " Terras do Alto Paiva", página 336, diz ser do século XIX. Nós temos outra opinião. A Capela Mor Fez-se logo, depois dum fôlego financeiro. Só que as obras demoraram. Ao gizarem o projecto pensaram noutro estilo e até se arrependeram de ter deixado a parte de baixo com pequenos janelitos, acabando por abrir uma janela igual à da Capela Mor como se pode ver, agora, que se tirou a argamassa velha.
Quanto à Capela Mor encontramos na Revista "Beira Alta" páginas 274-275, de 1986, uma escritura que diz:
"Escritura de fiança que dá a José Pires, Mestre carpinteiro desta cidade, às obras da Capela-Mor e Sacristia da Igreja de S. Pelágio de Fráguas, desta comarca de Lamego. No ano de 1782, por ser passado dia de natal, aos 25 dias do mês de Dezembro do ano pretérito, nesta cidade de Lamego e na Rua do Senhor do Bom Despacho dela, no meu escritório, apareceu presente, José Pires, mestre carpinteiro desta mesma cidade (...) pelo qual foi dito, perante nós, que no Juízo da Provedoria havia feito rematação das obras de carpintaria e talha da tribuna da capela mor e sacristia da Igreja de S. Pelágio de Fráguas, desta mesma comarca, a saber, a obra de carpintaria na quantia de cento e noventa e cinco mil reis, as quais obras, conforme seus apontamentos com que as tomou e lhe foram rematadas, por este público instrumento se obriga por sua pessoa e bens de qualquer espécie, em seu nome e de seus herdeiros e sucessores, a dar cumpridas, perfeitas e acabadas, na forma dos referidos apontamentos...".
Fiadores, " António José Fernandes, mestre carpinteiro da Rua de Almedina, desta cidade, e Manuel dos Anjos, também mestre pedreiro e mercador, morador na entrada da Praça de cima, da mesma".
Tabelião, "José António de Carvalho Freire".
Concluímos que a Capela Mor será de 1783, isto é quarenta anos após a conclusão de parte do Corpo da Igreja.

We conclude that the Mor Chapel will be from 1783, that is forty years after the completion of part of the Church Body.
