The central part of the fountain consists of a series of 15 shields of Cancun with the particularity that they are all reversed. This error was probably due to the fact that a mold was made with the design as seen instead of reversed which gave the unwanted result.
It is more obvious on the yellow part of the shield if you compare to the formal shield on the building of the Town Hall (our 5th photo).
The shield of the municipality of Benito Juárez, which represents the city of Cancún, was designed by Mexican American artist Joe Vera. It is divided into three parts: the blue color symbolizes the Caribbean Sea, the yellow of the sand and the red of the sun with its rays.
