EN: The Reformed Church of St. Martin stands in the center of Kirchberg and is one of the oldest churches in the area. It dates back to the time of the Franconian mission of the Alemanni and was probably founded in the 8th century. It was first mentioned in 1276, the village named after it already in 1226. Around 1400, the church was enlarged to its present size. In 1529, it became reformed. The oldest part of the church still existing today - the bell tower - was built in 1619.

In 1867/68, the church except for the tower was demolished and replaced by the present one. The plans for the neo-Gothic building were from the well-known church architect Paul Reber.

The church tower must also have been redesigned during the reconstruction, because steeples like this are here - unlike in England - genuinely unknown. And indeed, the church of St. George's in Everton was the model for this construction. The reason was Rudolf Zwilchenbart; the son of a former pastor of Kilchberg and businessman, who had become rich in Liverpool, took over 70% of the costs.

Der Kirchturm muss bei diesem Neubau aber auch umgestaltet worden sein, denn solche Kirchtürme sind hier - anders als in England - eingentlich unbekannt. Und tatsächlich war die Kirche St. George's in Everton das Vorbild zu diesem Bau. Der Grund dafür war Rudolf Zwilchenbart; der Sohn eines ehemaligen Pfarrers von Kilchberg und in Liverpool reich gewordener Kaufmann, übernahm 70% der Kosten.
