In many ways, IKEA Hotell is just like any other hotel.
They have comfortable beds, we tidy up your room and we offer a tasty breakfast buffet, like everybody else. But they have added a little extra something that we here in Älmhult are rather good at: a feeling of home.

It all began with the meatballs.

The first IKEA store, opened by Ingvar Kamprad in 1958, was an overnight sucess. Shoppers traveled long distances to find modern, smart furniture they could actually afford. After a day of shopping and inspiration, they needed somewhere to eat and rest. That was the beginning of the IKEA motel, where one could recharge one’s batteries with a plate of meatballs, and sleep over if the drive home was long. The swimming pool behind the hotel even offered a little touch of glamour.
