Innsbruck/Seefeld hosted the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 and 1976. In 1985, Seefeld hosted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and will host it again in 2019. In 2012, the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games was held in Innsbruck and Seefeld. A total of 1,058 athletes aged 14 to 18 from over 70 nations have tested their athletic ability in 63 competitions. The ski jumping, cross-country skiing, Nordic combination and biathlon disciplines took place at the Seefeld Nordic Competence Centre.

The monument comprises three tall three-sided stuctures holding a globe featuring the Olympic rings and the name Seefeld. Three tall plaques with the names of the medalists of 1964, 1976 and 1985 are attached to the three-sided stuctures.
