The entrance to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta Grand Priory of Lombardy and Venice.
Established in 1187 as a location for the Order of St John Hospitallers, after the grounds were seized by Rome from the Knights Templar.
The chambers actually form part of the Church of St John of Malta.
The Priory has now been in existence for well over 800 years. In addition to the doorway, there are Priory symbols located throughout the courtyard and street.
The doorway, constructed of solid hardwood, are set into a stone entrance way. Each door has a brass plate and handle. The right-hand one has a brass plate as well, indicated the Grand Priory.
