"The 'Ghost bike' is a temporary memorial to acknowledge British cyclist Mike Hall who died following a road accident at this site on March 30 2017 while competing in the solo uncupported 5,474 km Indian Pacific Wheel Race.
"Mike Hall was the world's leading ultra endurance cycle champion, winning the 2012 Round the World Cycle Race, 2013 and 2016 US Tour Divide [4,270 km off road mountain bike] 2014 Trans Am Bike Race [6,735 km road bike]. He holds the current race record for both the Trans Am and the Tour Divide.
"In 2014 Mike established and promoted the highly successful Trans Continental bike race, West-East across Europe. The 2017 Trans Con commences in July and will in all probability continue on in future years in his memory.
"There are ongoing discussions within the local ACT cycle community and Mike's family as to an appropriate long term memorial for Mike's contribution to the world of ultra endurance bike racing and his passion for challenge and adventure.
"It is currently intended that this Ghost Bike and public tributes will be removed by year's end once a long term memorial project is determined.

On talking with Steve, there is the hope to have a similar memorial in America, where Mike promoted the Trans Continental and the Tour Divide endurance races. This memorial position will remain.
Mike had covered some 5,000 of the 5,500 km endurance race, from Fremantle, Western Australia to Sydney, New South Wales when he was struck, and killed just before dawn, by a vehicle.
