Cotton Club - Hamburg's first jazz cellar in Hamburg's Neustadt district.
In 1959, the Cotton Club was founded under the name Vati's Tube Jazzclub in Tiefbunker Grindelhof 89b.
In 1961 he was taken over by W.-Dieter Roloff, to whom he still belongs today. In 1963 he was renamed Cotton Club.
Until 1965 the Cotton Club stayed in these rooms. Then he moved for the first time because the lease had expired. The new domicile became the former Tangorett in Spaldingstraße (later Danny's Pan).
Then it went on in Paul Roosen Street (St. Pauli).
Further stations in various parts of Hamburg followed. Then in 1967 the Hamburg jazz club e.V. with its rooms in the bunker Poelchaukamp 10, was taken over. The Cotton Club was then called Cotton Club Hamburger Jazz Club e.V.
There in the high bunker the Cotton Club remained until the beginning of 1971. Up to this time only rarely well-known foreign groups were obligated u.a. the HAGAW band from Warsaw and Sammy Rimington from England.
But almost all well-known Hamburg and partly also foreign groups played in the Cotton Club.
In 1971, the Cotton Club moved to the former Jailhouse Tavern on Alte Steinweg 10 (Großneumarkt).
From that time on, in addition to well-known German bands, such as The Barrelhouse Jazzband from Frankfurt and the Allotria Jazzband from Munich, also frequently foreign bands obliged:
