On the 25th of November 1895 a massive explosion in the Sant Ferran's /San Fernando's armoury caused the death of 97 people.

Most of the victims were women and children working on the armoury fabricating ammo. The event caused a major impact on the island and it was reported all over Spain.

The city of Palma set up this memorial at the local cemetery honouring the lost lives. The memorial reads:
