The pillbox and observation post served as a bitter reminder of the Nazi occupation of Greece during World War II.
On the night of 30th May, 1941, 2 local youths snuck up to the post and stole the German flag from the post. Some say this was the birth of the Greek Resistance movement, which remained a force until liberation in 1944.
