The history of the Delavan, IL library reaches back to 1907 when in the spring election of that year the Delavan Township voted a one and one-tenth mill tax to support a library. The Delavan library become the first tax supported library in Illinois. In 1914, a grant of $10,000 dollars was received from the Carnegie Foundation for the building of a modern library facility. This building is still used today as the library.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
