On Block Island is the town of Shoreham, Rhode Island, which is named after Shoreham in England, UK.

In downtown, at the corner where Water Street and Dodge Street meet at a right angle, is a landscape area where there is a stone marker

New Shoreham is the only town on Block Island, stuck out 12 miles into the Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 1051, according to the U.S. Census. The town was incorporated in 1672. Currently, it is the least populous town in Rhode Island on an island that is roughly triangular in shape and about 7 miles x 5 miles. The town was once a base for fishing, but this is largely gone, now. It is well known as a resort town. Several hotels still operate on the island. There is also a National Wildlife Refuge at the north end, and the famous Mohegan Bluffs on the south end.

Shoreham, also called Shoreham-By-the-Sea, is a town on the south shore of England, along the English Channel. It has a population of 20,547 (2011 Census). The town dates back to Roman times. Shoreham Bay has flats that is a habitat area for shore birds. Shoreham's harbor is commercially active including shipyards.
