Das historische Museum Saar liegt direkt neben dem Schloss Saarbrücken. Es beherbergt eine Dauerausstellung zur Geschichte des Saarlandes seit 1870. Daneben gibt es regelmäßig wechselnde Sonderausstellungen zu verschiedenen Themen der Geschichte.

An die NS-Zeit, in der hier das Gestapo Gefängnis untergebracht war, erinnert eine erhaltene Zelle mit Originalinschriften der Insassen an den Wänden.

Ein besonderes Highlight stellt die unterirdische Burganlage mit den Kasematten dar, die 14 m unter dem Schlossplatz liegen und besichtigt werden können. Diese Kasematten wurden zwischen 2003 und 2007 freigelegt und erstrecken sich über 1500 m²

The historic Saar Museum is located next to the Castle Saarbrücken. It shows a permanent exhibition on the history of Saarland since 1870. There are also regularly changing special exhibitions on various topics of history.

During the Nazi dictatorship the Gestapo prison was located here. Today reminds a preserved cell with original inscriptions of the inmates on the walls on this dark site of the history.

A special highlight are the underground castle complex with the casemates, which are 14 m below the Castle square and witch can be visited. These casemates were uncovered between 2003 and 2007 and extend over 1500 m²
