This 2mtr high bronze statue has been moved twice and is now in its third location. Hopefully the last one.

It is revealed on June 16, 1977 and then stood opposite the Church which is demolished now.
Original Location: N 52 42.612 E 5 51.726

In 1981/1982, 'De Pionier', after the renovation of the village center, was moved 60mtr. to the beginning of the Breestraat.
Second Location: N 52 42.587 E 5 51.757

In 2001 it was moved 155mtr to its current location.
Third Location: N 52 42.505 E 5 51.767

The information panel in front of it reads:

PIONIER
The pioneer, the symbol of the dike workers and the pioneers,
was unveiled on 16 June 1977 by former landdrost ir. A.P.
Remaining on the wall of the canal opposite the
R.K. Church. This image was created by Hubert van Lith
ftom Edam on behalf of the A.D. of Eckfonds and the
Village Association Marknesse. In 1982 he moved to
the Centre.
