After the introduction of natural gas, most gas containers in the Netherlands have gone flat.
However, that in Dedemsvaart was bought for one guilder by the municipality of Avereest in 1987, and thus preserves demolition.
The Historical Association Avereest called for a foundation in life to find a new destination for the gas container. And with success: the restored, converted gas holder now offers cultural and educational activities.
