Memorial to the former New Dammtor synagogue on the university campus in Hamburg-Rotherbaum.
The New Dammtor synagogue was a synagogue in the Grindel quarter in Hamburg. It was built in 1895 in orientalizing style. At the November 1938, she was desecrated, with private donations, it was possible to restore her so far that there might be worship services for a time. In 1943 the building was destroyed by bombs.
In coordination between the Monument Protection Office and the Jewish Community of Hamburg, a stele with memorial plaque was erected on 9 November 1995 at the location of the former New Dammtor Synagogue. Originally the stele was supposed to reproduce the façade of the synagogue. This project failed, however, so that the history of the synagogue was reproduced only in text form.
