"La maquette que vous avez sous les yeux reproduit fidèlement l'ensemble du monastère bénédictin de St Florent, avant la Révolution. Comme on le voit, les différentes parties formaient un quadrilatère à peu près régulier.
Le côté nord, parallèle à la Loire, était occupé par l'église abbatiale qui domine le fleuve. Elle est elle-même surmontée d'un clocher qui domine le paysage. Sa façade présente un aspect composite mais original.
Le côté Est, perpendiculaire à l'église, constituait l'une des ailes du monastère. Elle est occupée actuellement par des bâtiments récents.
L'aile Sud, parallèle à l'église, conserve des parties intéressantes, en particulier des pilastres engagés dans le mur et une terrasse qui domine la rue.
Au 18ème siècle, la petite rue transversale qui mène an porche gothique méridional n'existait pas. C'est très visible sur la maquette. Il n'y avait qu'un passage voûté dans le corps du bâtiment.
La ruelle fut créée à partir du moment où l'église abbatiale devint église paroissiale après la révolution.
Enfin, la partie Ouest devant vous garde sensiblement son aspect du 18ème siècle.
A gauche, en sortant de l'église, s'ouvre la porte dite de Crouzille. Son fronton est surmonté d'une magnifique coquille Saint Jacques. Elle permettait de pénétrer dans l'enclos monastique, occupé aujourd'hui par des jeux de boules et des jardins. L'entrée est libre. Dans ce qui fait l'enclos, on voit encore, mais dissimulé dans un mur, le puits central qui figure sur la maquette."

"The model which is in front of you, with fully reproduces the whole Saint Florent's benedictine monastery as it was before the revolution.
As you can see, the different parts formed a more or less regular quadrilateral.
The north side, parallel with the river Loire. was occupied by the abbey church overlooking the river. It is itself surmonted by a steeple everlooking the contryside. The front aspect is heterogeneous but original.
The east side, petpendicular to the church, formed one of the monastery wings. It is occupied at the moment by recent buildings.
The south wing, parallel to the church, contains interesting parts, particularly pillars set in the wall and a terrace overlooking the street.
In the 18th century, the small street leading to the gothic porch didn't exist. It is quite visible on the model. There was only a vaulted passage in the building itself.
The side street was created from the moment when the abbey became the parish church after the revolution.
Finally, the west part in front of you, perceptibly keeps its 18th century form.
On the left, on leaving the church, is to be fond the door called "de Crouzille". Its lintel issurmonted by a magificent scallop shell.
It used to be used to enter the monastery yard, occupied today by bowling putches and gardens. The entrance is free.
In what was the walled yard, you can still see, hidden in a wall, the central well which is shown on the model.
On the south, west and east sides, a cloister enabled the monks to shelter from the sun or the rain.
