The great depression during the thirties was also in the Netherlands. The government tried to find labour-projects for young unemployed men. The city government of Groenlo suggested to built a bandshell. The central Dutch government gave no permission for this project.
About 1950 choirs, music bands and others tried again. This time there was permission. Mainly because all the citizens together had to pay all the costs.
In 1952 the building was there.
On photo 2 you can see the memorial stone that was unveiled at that moment.
Nowadays there are pop festivals, concerts, and so on.
