There is no one building that is Enryaku-ji - it's the whole mountain with many temples and sacred sites, divided into three main areas: To-do (East Area), Sai-to (West Area), and Yokawa. The coordinates point to the entrance of Konpon Chu-do, the Central Main Hall, in the East Area, founded in 788 A.D. by Dengyo Daishi, the man responsible for bringing Buddhism from China.
Many buildings were burned down by Oda Nobunaga's henchmen in 1571 A.D., including the nearby Hokke Soji-in which was rebuilt and restored in 1987.
