W E Teare Limited was incoporated on 27 June 1975 under the Isle of Man Companies Act 1931.
The Teare family owned a butchers shop in Ramsey for many years before the Limited Company was incorporated.
The earliest mention of Teare’s butchers in Ramsey is from 1916:
“By 1916 they were both owned [15 & 17 Riverside Cottages, Riverside, Ramsey] by the Teare family (Butchers of Ramsey) and No. 15 remained in their ownership until sold to Roger Cowin in the 1980’s…”
This comes from the supporting documentation giving 17 Riverside Cottages, Riverside, Ramsey, Registered Building status.
Mrs Kathleen Audrey Crowe in her recorded recollections remembers leaving school in Ramsey, at the age of 14 left and going to work for Eric Teare’s:
“I went to work in a butcher’s shop. Eric Teare’s – were very good to me. I enjoyed that...”
