EN: The suspension bridge over the lowest part of the Massa Gorge connects the hamlet of Hegdorn with Bitsch. The bridge is 40 meters long and 120 cm wide. It was built in 2016 and replaced a dilapidated conventional bridge from 1918.
The bridge can be reached with a simple hike from Hegdorn or Bitsch. It is not to be confused with the suspension bridge over the upper part of the Massa Gorge between Belalp with Riederalp, which is 124 meters long and requires about five hours of hiking time.
The inauguration plaque hangs on the western side of the bridge. The main text is written in a strangely ironic and pseudo-medieval language:
"Hängebrücke Biel - Aspen
This bridge was built Anno Domini MMXVI by Anton Karlen, the mighty ruler of Bitsch and Manfred Holzer, the mighty ruler of Naters in the last year of their reign.

Anton Karlen was a municipal council from 2004 to 2008 and from 2008 to 2016 mayor of Bitsch. Today, he is President of the Valais regional branch of Postauto Switzerland.
Manfred Holzer was born in 1961 and is a lawyer. From 2004 to 2016, he was the mayor of Naters.
DE: Die Hängebrücke über den untersten Teil der Massaschlucht verbindet den Weiler Hegdorn mit Bitsch. Die Brücke ist 40 Meter lang und 120 cm breit. Sie wurde 2016 erbaut und ersetzte eine baufällige konventionelle Brücke aus dem Jahr 1918.
Die Brücke ist mit einer einfachen Wanderung von Hegdorn oder Bitsch zu erreichen. Sie ist nicht zu verwechseln mit der Hängebrücke über der oberen Teil der Massaschlucht zwischen Belalp mit Riederalp, die 124 Meter lang ist und rund fünf Stunden Wanderzeit benötigt.
Das Einweihungsschild hängt an der westlichen Seite der Brücke. Der Haupttext ist in einer seltsam ironischen und pseudo-mittelalterlichen Sprache verfasst:

Diese Brücke haben Anno Domini MMXVI Anton Karlen, Gewalthaber von Bitsch und Manfred Holzer, Gewalthaber von Naters im letzten Jahre ihrer Regentschaft erbauen lassen.

Anton Karlen war von 2004 bis 2008 Gemeinderat und von 2008 bis 2016 Gemeindepräsident von Bitsch. Heute ist er Präsident der Regionalgesellschaft Wallis von Postauto Schweiz.
Manfred Holzer wurde 1961 geboren und ist Rechtsanwalt. Er war von 2004 bis 2016 Gemeindepräsident von Naters.
