EN: The coat of arms of Birgisch is on the wall of a house at the village square near the chapel. The tower on the coat of arms symbolizes the Knights Hospitaller, who had a hermitage in Birgisch, from which the chapel emerged. I have not found any documentation of the meaning of the river; it could be the Mundbach, which flows west of Birgisch in a gorge. Birgisch was first mentioned in 1232 and merged with Naters and Mund at the end of 2012. The coat of arms of the new municipality of Naters is a fusion of the coats of arms of Mund and Naters. The tower of Birgisch was also included on the first designs, but later removed, so as not to overload the new coat of arms.
DE: Das Wappen von Birgisch befindet sich an der Wand eines Hauses am Dorfplatz bei der Kapelle. Der Turm auf dem Wappen symbolisiert die Johanniter, die in Birgisch eine Einsiedelei besassen, aus der die Kapelle hervorging. Die Bedeutung des Flusses habe ich nirgends gefunden; es könnte der Mundbach sein, der westlich von Birgisch in einer Schlucht fliesst. Birgisch wurde 1232 erstmals erwähnt und fusionierte Ende 2012 zusammen mit Naters und Mund. Das Wappen der neuen Gemeinde Naters ist eine Veschmelzung der Wappen von Mund und Naters. Der Turm von Birgisch war auf den ersten Entwürfen auch enthalten, wurde aber später wieder entfernt, um das Wappen nicht zu überladen.
